From Boise, Idaho, Ryder first thought about attending the Sun Valley Culinary Institute (SVCI) to gain firsthand experience working as a cook in an authentic restaurant setting without committing to a long-term career. However, while in high school, Donerkiel met remarkable chefs who taught him how to cook. Encouraged by his high school teacher, Chef Gibb, Donerkiel decided to apply to SVCI to pursue a culinary arts education. For the 2025-26 academic year, his goal at the institute is to improve his cooking skills and learn new techniques.
